About this opportunity:
The Behaviour Support Practitioner provides consultation, case review, risk assessment and intervention for clients with complex needs as they access services provided by Southern Cross Support Services.
Key responsibilities of this role:
- Establish and review policy and practice guidelines for the support of adults, children, and young people with complex and challenging behaviour.
- Provide high quality, culturally appropriate behaviour support to people with an intellectual disability who have a specific support need.
- Write PBSP’s with strategies that respond to participants needs and the causes of the challenging behaviour.
- Implement appropriate evidence based behavioural support services that meet the needs of clients according to the goals and within the allocated hours of their NDIS plan.
- Participate in support planning processes for clients to deliver coordinated, effective service provision that meets the goals of the client’s NDIS Plan.
- Keep up to date records and necessary reports e.g., support plans, assessment reports, intervention summaries.
- Coach, advise and support on the job support to other team members to enhance quality and culturally appropriate behavioural support interventions.
- Provide consultation, as required for complex referrals for disability services through the Intake and Engagement Team.
- Demonstrated experience in similar position within Complex Behaviour Support (over 1 year desirable)
- Qualification in a relevant Allied-Health Profession e.g. Social Work, Mental Health, or Psychology (desirable)
- Suitability at the Core or Provisional level as a Behaviour Support Practitioner (confirmed by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission)
- An understanding of the NDIS Quality and Safeguarding Framework and relevant disability legislation
- Blue Card for Working with Children and Yellow Card/NDIS Worker Screening Check
- Drivers Licence
