In response to the rapid escalation of the Coronavirus  (COVID-19) in Australia, we want to assure you that our top priority is the well-being of our clients, employees, stakeholders and communities. Southern Cross Support Services are actively monitoring the rapidly changing situation and taking action to facilitate a safe and healthy working environment while maintaining continuity of business.

 

In line with the recommendations from the World Health Organisation, the Australian Department of Health and Queensland Government we are cancelling all group activities conducted by SCSS until further notice.

 

We urge all clients and staff to practice good hygiene by covering coughs, washing hands, cleaning surfaces and disposing of tissues. We recommend vulnerable clients stay away from large public gatherings such as shopping centres & cinemas as well as minimising physical contact with others.

 

Our support teams will be taking the lead in the field to ensure we reduce any unnecessary community contact. In addition to this, our crisis management team have considered the emotional and behavioural impacts support staff may face with our clients being so vulnerable and unaware of the changes in their community.

We are calling for urgent action from the State and Federal Governments to develop a targeted response to COVID-19 for people with disability, their families and the disability service sector.
