Blessing of the Fleet
Date: 27th July
Time: 4 pm - 7:30 pm
Address: Great Sandy Straits Marina
Join us on July 27 for tasty food stalls and fun children’s activities as part of Hervey Bay’s traditional Blessing of the Fleet which signals the beginning of the whale watching season. The Blessing of the Fleet is a centuries old tradition believed to have originated in Mediterranean communities to ensure a safe and prosperous season to all vessels.
A Butchulla welcome, aloha chant and multi-faith blessing will be the highlight of this year's event which runs from 4pm - 7pm. You can also step aboard to check out the many whale watching vessels, enjoy a sail past and listen to some great live music before watching the fantastic fireworks display. There will also be a Marine Rescue Hervey Bay (MRHB) open day from 3pm to 5:30pm at the Urangan Harbour to promote awareness of the volunteer service. Drop in to MRHB and take the opportunity to check out their rescue capabilities.
