Kym Watling & Geoffrey Bates are songwriters from the western edge of the Northern Rivers of NSW, where the mists hang low over rugged mountains and livestock graze upon green fields once covered by the Big Scrub. After 16 years together, they have a suitcase full of stories of small towns, long highways, soft hearts, and troubles left behind.

Watling & Bates have played festivals, country halls, hotels, art galleries, and featured in an Opera Queensland production. They have produced community events for Seniors Week and Mental Health Month, supported Canada’s All Day Breakfast Stringband, and hosted local old time jams.

The duo released their first full length album ‘Small Town Tales’, produced by Thor Phillips, in 2018. Their 2014 debut EP ‘Before I Met You’ produced two CRS releases in 2015 & 2016.

Watling & Bates ride the ridges of Australian country and American western, weaving uniquely Australian stories into their distinctive old time mountain style. Fiddle, banjo, and guitar kick up dust on a country road in full skirt, straw hat, and sturdy boots. Inspired by the eerie howls of unseen beasts and the softness of horses’ noses, their original tunes draw on old time country traditions, swept by the headlights of passing trucks.

2018 Baffle Creek Family Fishing Festival

Date: Thursday, 4 October 2018 - 12:00pm to Saturday, 6 October 2018 - 9:00pm

Where: Coast Road, Baffle Creek

Admission: From $5 +

The Baffle Creek Family Fishing Festival is held by the Baffle Creek Community Inc. The grounds come to life with bush-style entertainment, festivities and fun for all walks and ages, while the recreational fishers amongst us take to the fantastic waters around Baffle Creek vying for great prizes! In 2017 the competition became purely ‘Catch, Snap & Release’. Our fish stocks and the health of our river systems are important to us. Although, you are welcome to take one home for dinner!

The festival offers families and friends the opportunity to put the stresses of modern life aside to enjoy a few days with their favourite people in a truly beautiful natural environment, while providing two significant benefits to the Baffle Creek Community: a means of showcasing the magic and lifestyle of Baffle Creek to the outside world – this positive exposure is integral to nurturing opportunities for local eco-sustainable industries (eg ecotourism and fresh food production) to seed, grow and employ, and secondly, raises funds needed to maintain the Baffle Creek Community Centre – an essential facility utilised by many for sporting, educational, social, health and community care activities.

Date: Thursday 4th to Saturday 6th October 2018
Fishing Times: Thursday 4th October 12:00pm - Saturday 6th Oct 12:00pm 2018
