Rhiannon

Queensland Indigenous Leadership Program

We are wanting to send a huge congratulations to our very own Rhiannon 'Rhi', Service Delivery Senior Administration Officer located in Bundaberg, for being selected to attend the Queensland Indigenous Leadership Program (QIYLP). The QIYLP is a program that is run by The Department of Child Safety, Youth & Woman and provides an exciting opportunity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders between the ages 18 – 25 to come together as a group to strengthen their leadership skills and build their capacity to drive change in local communities. Below, Rhi explains how she was selected.

"I applied during COVID after a friend of mine had posted the link for applications, she completed the program last year and spoke so highly of the program and what she had learnt, so when I heard this I was eager to apply. I had completely forgotten I applied so when I received the acceptance email it was a big shock."

The program will run for a week from the 12th – 18th of December. Rhi is hoping to gain a range of skills from this experience that she can not only bring back into community but the workplace and further assist in making a difference.

"One of my main goals in life has always been to make a difference in someone’s life everyday, this can be as little as opening the door for someone or completing a much bigger task. By completing this program I’m also hoping it will provide me with the confidence and correct skills for me to be able to pass down throughout the workforce and help others progress throughout their career like I have."

Rhi strongly encourages any other indigenous staff or clients in between the ages of 18 – 25 to apply next year in hopes of gaining a shot at the same experience.
